Denver Broncos Roster2019 Broncos roster review: Tight end Austin FortNew Adam Gotsis Color Rush Jersey ,21commentsAustin Fort could be a perfect candidate for the Denver Broncos practice squad. The Wyoming tight end has all of the athletic intangibles one would want from a pass catching tight end. MDTThe Denver Broncos added undrafted free agent tight end Austin Fort soon after the 2019 NFL Draft concluded as part of their first round of UDFA signings. Austin Fort ProfileHeight: 6’4”Weight: 244 lbsAge: 24Experience: Rookie The Wyoming tight end began his career as a quarterback there, but ended up making the team as a walk-on tight end. He was largely an unknown having very little college highlights to speak of. In fact, Fort wouldn’t likely have been a player to even garner notice as an undrafted free agent if it wasn’t for Wyoming’s Pro Day.The goodFort turned heads at Wyoming’s Pro Day, showing off NFL speed with a 4.56 40-yard time, a 6.80 on the 3-cone, and 4.25 20-yard shuttle. When it comes to undrafted players, you are looking for projects that could develop into solid contributors or even starters on your roster. Fort is going to need a lot of work to make this a career, but with his athletic talent he has a legitimate shot at achieving those goals. The badFort’s career stats in three seasons at Wyoming was a whooping 17 receptions for 221 yards and four touchdowns. That’s not much film to go off of. The good news there is that he was clearly more of a red zone weapon for Wyoming. Quotable The Broncos were very interested in Fort’s athletic intangibles. The impression their staff made at Wyoming’s Pro Day is a big reason why Fort chose the Broncos UDFA offer over the Kansas City Chiefs offer.“When I did the local pro day there, I got to work with (tight ends) coach (Wade) Harman Phillip Lindsay Jersey , and we sort of clicked right off the bat,” Fort said in a Casper Star Tribune piece in early May. “I felt comfortable in the building, and they made it clear that they wanted me there. The Chiefs were definitely really interested, but it was more of we can bring you in and see what you can do where the Broncos were kind of saying that we want you here.”Austin Fort HighlightsAustin Fort’s roster status with the BroncosGoing into this roster review, I didn’t really know much about Austin Fort. Having looked through some of his highlights and read up on his potential, I am feeling like he could be a dark horse kind of guy who the Broncos could sneak onto the practice squad to keep coaching him up. The Casper Star Tribune article linked in the quotable section was a really fun read on Fort. They interviewed him and really helped shed light on the rookies mentality heading into his first NFL season. I came away hoping he sticks around. Most of the time fans are just hoping starters don’t get injured in the limited time they are actually playing int he game. Every once in a while something pops out, and makes everyone smile. When the Broncos played the 49ers in their second preseason game, it happened. In fact , it happened twice. As Ian St. Clair and I discussed on the MHR Radio post game recap (ApplePodcasts, Spotify, and Stitcher), two players wrecked the game on defense for the Broncos. Bradley Chubb and Shelby Harris destroyed everything that Kyle Shanahan and Jimmy Garoppolo wanted to do on offense. The stamp they put on the game was shaped a lot boot mark.Perhaps the most interesting aspect of their impact was how it seemed to be happening in tandem. On Garoppolo’s first throw Harris batted it down. Watching the replay shows Chubb bearing down on him up the middle. On his next throw Chubb pressured him into a bad throw resulting in a Isaac Yiadom interception. Who was following close behind? Shelby Harris.Harris batted Garoppolo’s 3rd pass at the line (Chubb was in coverage). I can just imagine the nightmares Jimmy will have. On his 4th throw, Chubb bull rushed and got to the backside, forcing a throw from Garoppolo that was almost picked off and taken back for a touchdown. Garoppolo’s sixth throw saw Chubb make a move to the inside. He looked like he had a shot at a sack, but the ball was dumped off to Matt Breida who looked like he had space to run. Space that was quickly eliminated by a shoestring tackle by ... Shelby Harris. In 6 throws, Harris and Chubb were menacing on 5 of them (Chris Harris Jr. forced a bad throw on the 5th throw). Talk about making an impact on defense. And for good measure, Bradley Chubb added a strip sack of CJ Beathard on a 3rd and 8 in the first minute of the second quarter. The game was far from over at that point Todd Davis Color Rush Jersey , but if there was one big takeaway from the Broncos preseason game against the 49ers it was this; Bradley Chubb and Shelby Harris are for real. Denver’s defense is going to be good in 2019. Sneaky good, and scary good.MHR Radio is now on ApplePodcasts, Google Play, iHeartRadio, Spotify, Stitcher,TuneIn and anywhere else you get your podcasts.
